The Malaysian Flight 370

I am very happy that the man who did  not board the Malaysian flight 370 because his travel agent did not want him to fly on  shabbos did not do so. That said I am also very upset about the disappearance of flight 370 and am not so happy with the publicizing of the story of the man who did not board the flight. I feel as though it is dancing on the fate of those who did board that plane. As I write this the plane is still missing.  There were little children on that flight . These people have friends and families who are very distraught over what has happened. I myself am disturbed that this flight is still missing.
To be fair, the media always interviews some blessed soul who fortuitously did not board a plane that crashed , etc, but there is also a time to be quiet about one's fortune in the face of another's misfortune. Of course those who have escaped harm's way should be very grateful , but perhaps their voice should not let us forget to have compassion for those who are grieving.

It's been fascinating to read all the opinion pieces on the fate of the plane.
As I type this, here's what we know: the plane took off, changed course for no known reason and disappeared. Two people on board had stolen Iranian passports. That's it.
Despite that I've read about secret landing fields on Pacific Islands, terrorism, one or both of the pilots being secret jihadis, and that the plane is being prepped as a flying bomb a la 9/11. All speculation but it fills pages and pages.
My personal belief? The plane caught sight of a starship from the future (like in the Star Trek episode "Tomorrow is Yesterday" and the crew and passengers were beamed up to prevent them from blabbing about it while the plane was disintegrated by a high intensity phaser beam to eliminate all evidence. Right now the crew and passengers are enjoying synthesized food, the holodeck and panoramic views of space while the ship travels to its home base at warp speed.
Yes, it might sound a little fantastic but there's just as much evidence for it. Plus in my version no one dies!

It's insane that it still hasn't been found...

On a different note, besides "Dan's Deals", which is in no way classified as 'media', which media outlets covered the story of the guy who didn't take the plane because of Shabbos?

Wait, people still use travel agents?

WM - I guees just Aish hatorah's website and Jew in the city which aren't news media really. But in general I have watched on tv stations people being interviewed who missed flights that crashed.

FG- yeah , you have a point.

In general, yes... Besides this guy, I haven't seen one for this flight yet.

As for travel agents, I know people who work as one, and they are still used by anyone that takes flights for business purposes.
It's a lot simpler then searching for flights when you have an itinerary to follow.
Vacationers tend to do it on their own.
Which is why, your typical travel sites have pictures of beaches and gnomes in sunglasses, and not briefcases and tall buildings.

So do most travel agencies.

Once again, it's mostly tourists in a travel agency.
Business people don't go to a location to book tickets.
They call an agent on the phone, and simply tell them where they have to be and when... As opposed to asking where they should go and the best times to do it.
