I know a lot of people whose taste in music has remained what they listened to in high school . Most likely this is because of the fuzzy memories one associates with the oldies. There is nothing wrong with that. The danger lurks when one is still trying to be a hipster for the third decade. It just ain't going to be. This too is just fine. My philosophy is to like whatever music you like and that's cool. Music is only fun to listen to if you like it. If you don't like it why are you listening to it? Being one's own person and not just in line with the latest trends is coolest of all. What do all the trend setter's know anyway ?Good PR? I say like what you like and listen to what you like .

Cool Beans
I am not one who loves HOT weather. I love fall weather and spring is a close second. I recently had to purchase a new air conditioner. I finally feel human again. I do not know what people did in the days before air conditioning. I guess that's why many went upstate for the summer.. I don't even want to think about what jobs must have been like. I don't think I could have survived it. As it is the 88 degree weather we have had recently had made me feel delirious. I am so grateful for the return of cool air. I can finally think again.

A Cool Neighborhood?
Recently I have noticed a change in the demographics of Midwood. It seems there are more Yuppies. Really. Lately when I sit on the benches on Ocean Parkway I see people jogging. It was not just once. Its been often. Is Midwood finally becoming hip and cool? I would say not quite, but maybe the Yuppies who cannot afford to live elsewhere are beginning to populate the area. I say bring it on. We need to shake things up around here.

too cool for school
i never was one who cared whether or not i was part of the "in" crowd. as an adult i care even less. this is the great part of being an adult. one doesn't even feel like one has to be part of the "in" crowd. the problem is that so many i have met lately are still in that zone that cares about being "cool and popular" all of those in this zone are single. i would also like to say that this is probably why they are single. once one reaches the other side of 35 and one is single how "cool " are you anyway? if you are a guy you may be a confirmed player ( no this is not a good thing ) and if you are a woman might be considered an "old maid" (never cool). to distract others from the obvious they play the snob card. but again, who cares? which is my point. not caring what the clique-ish think is the best part of being an adult. snobbery works both ways. it is only powerful if you let it be. if you don't let it bother you it fails to have any effect. of course this is something i knew as a teenager. how "cool " is that?

never let them see you sweat
please explain this one to me. why on earth are many frum brooklyn women wearing sweater in the 95 degree weather that we are having and they aren't passing out from the heat? i am not wearing a 'summer sweater' and i feel like im swimming in perspiration. i can barely move. i don't get it. they don't even seem to be sweating , even those who are wearing shaitels. how is this possible?
all i can say is wake me up when its september when the weather is less oppressive.
p.s. the above photo was taken in september 2009.

black

black is the "in" color for new yorkers. black looks sheik. black is slimming. black goes with everything. black is the favorite color of many frum women. i think that this is because everyone is so weight conscious in this community. black is slimming.
black is part of my wardrobe. black is not my whole wardrobe. i love colors and i love wearing colored clothing. i guess i dont weigh enough for black to be my only wardrobe color. bh. they say black is beautiful, but it accentuates any dandruff flake that might be peppering ones shoulders. not a good color for a psoriasis sufferer like myself.
ive met new york men who wear the "uniform" of black from head to toe as well. some men wear black to appear slim and others are simply trying to be cool.magicians wear black . so do witches. hmmm. .... .....
