hairy thoughts

those of you who know me in real life and through this blog
are aware that i have thick, curly hair. (in case you didnt know this, now you do!) that said, it may seem odd that im sharing with you the following bit of information that is meant for women with thinning hair. but it really is not odd at all. i have a friend who has lupus who has experienced hair loss. she heard from a pregnant friend of hers that prenatal vitamins promote hair growth. after getting the okay from her physician she began taking them for her hair loss and it worked! her hair has grown back. she still has bald patches, but she does have hair!! its amazing.
before my friend was diagnosed with lupus she had beautiful hair. when she began losing her hair it was devastating. it is disheartening for a man to lose his hair, but for a young, single woman it is far worse.
i dont think that pre-natal vitamins work for male hair loss. sorry guys. for all of you ladies out their who may be experiencing hair loss , try using pre-natal vitamins. they work!

that's so bald!

when i was in college when someone wanted to say something was stupid, they would say it was so bald. im not exactly sure how the term was coined, but i always found it funny.
some women i know say they specifically do not want to date bald men. im not sure why. so long as a guy has a nice face, who cares. alot of men go bald with age anyway. if you meet him when he's already bald then there is no surprise as to what he will look like if he goes bald. he's already bald.
obviously a guy with hair is preferable , but im sure alot of guys would prefer a girl with modelsque looks instead of the average usuals, but we all have to be realistic.
the bald not bald dilemma does change with age. when you're 20 most men in their early twenties have hair. there might be a little bit receding there, but usually there's hair.
by late twenties , early thirties alot of guys , especially jewish guys, start to lose it. they become very self conscious about it. some bald guys even bring pictures of themselves when they had hair to show me on a first date. big no-no.
my favorite is watching television with guys who actually have hair but its starting to recede. they will see an actor who has alot of hair and comment on what great hair he has. funny thing is , it would never have crossed my mind to mention said actor's hair. it just takes an envious guy to notice this.
dating a bald guy vs dating a guy with hair on his head is a non-issue to me. baldness is just a physical attribute, its not a personality trait or defect. there are so MANY other more serious issues to ponder in dating and baldness should not be one of them.

curly girl

my grandmother loved shirley temple movies. though my mom and aunt have pin straight hair, my dad, my siblings and i all have curly hair. and lucky me, mine is probably the curliest .
i grew up with curly hair in a world full of straight - haired people. i didnt even know what to do with my hair until i was twenty-seven .
stereotypically jews seem to have curly hair, but all i can say is not where i grew up. my best friend in seventh grade had curly hair and that was about it (except for my family) until i emigrated to new york the mecca of "ethnic" (read curly) hair.
growing up , few celebrities seemed to have curly hair. in fact , when a tv character wanted to seem more polished, they always seemed to have straightened their unruly curly tresses.
now there is frizz ease and numerous frizz-control products which i continually rotate.
i remember several years ago there was a movie called the princess diaries that was boycotted by a curly hair website because they put down curly hair. i thought that the movie was cute, so i thought the boycott a bit extreme. i did however understand their sentiment.
i have come to embrace my curls , especially now that i know alot of other curly tops who are happy with their tresses. im sure i can attribute a few pounds to my thick ringlets. so i can assume that im really a few pounds thinner than the scale intimates. i save money on my electric bill by not using a blow dryer.
ive also noticed that older woman with curly hair tend to have healthier looking hair than older women with straight hair. curly haired women never damaged their locks with curling irons and seldom blow dried .
lets hear it for curly haired people!!!
