Bomb Cyclone

My favorite thing in the world as a kid was getting up on a wintery day and then hearing that school was out for the day due to bad weather.  Its just as exciting as an adult to have off of work due to inclement weather.
The scariest part about bad weather is not knowing when to call out from work and when to actually go in. Today I opted to stay home. It looks like night outside and the windy snow does not look enticing. I hope the arctic weather forecast for tomorrow is incorrect but I must say I am enjoying the day off of work for today.!!!

Snow

The other day when I exited a store much  to my chagrin I spied some flurries and said to the teenager leaving the store, "That's not snow is it ? " and the teen said to me " I wish!" Not the response I was expecting. I thought for a moment and then I realized it really was snow. Then I said, no , that's snow. At that point the teen jumped for joy. She had never seen snow before in her life and she ran to tell whoever else it was she was with. I felt so jaded. All I could think about was how much I wished
it wasn't snowing and anticipated a nasty commute home. There was a time when I found snow exciting. I remember the joy of a snow day off of school , of sledding and building snowmen. Sadly that life seems so long ago now that I work full time and snow has become more of a nuisance than a wonder.

Snow Days

The snow has visited New York City more times than I can count this winter. Usually I am in such a hurry that I don't get a chance to photograph the weather. Not this year. This year I have been able to snap some snow photos. Now that I am flipping through the photo files I realize how pretty the snow is. The snow kind of makes Brooklyn look like a sleepy town when snow blankets  the streets. How deceptive.

snow day

new york city has been hit by 2 feet of snow. its so bad that none of the subway trains are running and they actually announced it on the radio and it was actually posted on the new york transit authority's website. usually the new york transit authority website lies and says the trains are running but they really are not. this time they were truthful. it was that bad.
i grew up in the the midwest  and we didnt even drive in this kind of weather because its that bad.
stay warm everybody and don't be dumb enough to go out in the snow until the trains are running and the roads are clear.

snow day

friday was a snowy day in new york. it was fun to see all of the kids outside shoveling and making snowmen. a bunch of little girls told me that they wanted to have their snowperson put in hamodia. i guess they will have to settle for this blog....

weather or not?

according to the weather forecast there is supposed to be a major blizzard in new york tomorrow. as usual im in denial. the weather people love to hype this stuff up. the only thing is, what if they are right? then of course there is the question of whether i should go to work. if its already heavy snow and if they are still predicting a foot of snow at six a.m. tomorrow morning then its a no brainer. ill stay home. if there is no snow on the ground tomorrow morning at six a.m. then its also a no brainer. ill go to work. if i get to the train station tomorrow and the train isn't running then i know im not going anywhere. it only gets tricky if i go to work and then the weather gets horrific before quitting time.
the thing is, its kind of nice being at work when its snowy weather because there are less clients . its easy money. of course its only pleasant if i believe i wont be stranded at the seventh avenue train station and have to attempt walking home.
what to do? what to do ? major snowstorms used to only occur on fridays when i used to work on fridays. now that i don't work on fridays .... well you catch my (snow) drift...

snowy wishes

i love winter and cold weather. it makes me feel alive.

today was snowy and not too arctic in nyc. for days when it isnt snowing you really have to check out the light display across from macy's herald square. there is a light show that looks like snow. i took some photos of it, but you cant really see the "snow" so well. i dont know how long this display will be up, but its worth checking out in person.
