Satisfaction

Birthdays are always a time when people re-examine their lives. Am I closer to my goals than I was last year? No, today is not my birthday. It is the birthday of a good friend of mine, thus the introspection.
It is so easy to look back at the year and feel an aura of dissatisfaction. One is still single, may never have children, may never be independently wealthy. The list goes on. If ruminating about what one lacks propels a person to improve one's lot then ruminating can be positive. If it just sinks one further into a pit of self pity then ruminating is counter-productive. Perhaps it would be better to  try and identify what is good in one's life and try and appreciate.   If one is healthy, bask in this. Does one have solid friendships, and/or family who one mutually loves, cares and respects? These are all vital ingredients to existence on planet earth. Cherish them.
Do you make time for the things that are important to you? If so appreciate this. If not try to make time for them.
No matter how wealthy a person is one always wants more. Appreciate what one does have. I used to live in basement apartment. I had a friend who visited me and  disparaged me for living there. At the time it was all I could afford and I was satisfied living there because the rent was reasonable and I was able to do everything I wanted to because I had such low rent. Until she  brought it up I felt just fine about it. Don't let others drag you down.
The quickest way to wealth is to appreciate what one has. Life is a process. Being satisfied with one's lot is not a cop-out. One can strive for one's goals while being satisfied with what bounty one has. It is always best for striving to start at point of strength rather than weakness.

Its that time of year again...

Its that time of year again. Yes, its my birthday. Again. Baruch Hashem . Its the time where I look through my list of things that I would have liked to have accomplished this year and I realize that I haven't done half of what I would have liked to have. I suppose this means that I still have things to strive for which is  a positive thing. It is never good to be stagnant. Birthday time is where I push my goals to the next year. Hopefully by next year I  will accomplish them. Or not. Anyway, happy birthday to me.

don't break the eggs

a lot of people are all or nothing people . they are either perfect or horrible and nothing in between. unfortunately for them life is rarely clear cut. i heard the following analogy in regards to weight loss, but it can really be applied to everything in life.
here goes...
lets say you have a carton full of eggs and by the time you get home from the store you realize that you have broken one of the eggs. would you just continue breaking the rest of the eggs because after all one egg is broken and you no longer have a full carton of intact eggs? i will answer this one. of course you would not continue to break the rest of the eggs. you would just have to make the most of the remaining eleven eggs until you went to the store again and bought another dozen eggs.
just because a person might break their diet one day does not mean they should throw in the towel. sometimes people fail but this does not eradicate the rest of ones victories. try to look at the big picture. just because things aren't perfect does not mean the goals aren't worth striving for even if they may take long to achieve.
never underestimate the power of perseverance.

status quo

life is really weird. for years things can be the same . nothing changes. ever. and then suddenly after many years of sameness it changes. poof! just like that. the change isn't always bad change , but its change. this is why one has to be flexible. things may seem like they will never change , but that do change . eventually. i guess this could count as a proof that one can actually be hopeful about achieving ones hopes, dreams and goals.
