Brave New World

     The election of Donald Trump has been so surprising to so many that  a comedian  named Bert Kreischer whose podcast that I listen to sometimes ,  who voted for Hillary Clinton said that he felt like now that Donald Trump is president he has been in good mood and like anything is possible. That made me laugh so hard. If we can forget that all of this is reality we have to admit that there is going to be a bastion of comedy to be enjoyed for at least the next four years. If Hillary decides to run again in 4 years then we will find out that 74 really is the new 65. You never know. Bernie is 74 or something and he had a large following. If she really becomes the Democratic candidate in four years the presidential debates this year will seem tame.
       The best part is that SNL has been more fun to watch now than it has for about 20 years. I don't think that this was his intention but Donald Trump is definitely going to make people laugh again which really ain't too shabby.

      It is always fun to listen to people talk about the presidential election  results. There are some  rules that should be adhered to when one is at a shabbos table. When someone adamantly supports either candidate is best not to argue with them. They are never going to see it your way, especially if you don't know them very well. When a woman is lambasting Trump for sexually harassing women and you are a man it is best to keep quiet. No one  wants to hear your opinion no matter how rational you think you are. Its kind of like when a woman asks a man if she looks fat. Never respond!! This is not the time to denounce feminism and rally for men's rights. No one cares. I am not a Hilary supporter either. Trump is a flawed person and  has been married 3 times . I never will forget the Trump/Marla Maples scandal. Now that Trump is president elect I hope that he will be a good president, good for Israel and good for the Jewish people,  HOWEVER Trump is not the next god-king. Moreover, the best way for a single guy to gain brownie point is to NOT expose his misogynist leanings in front of single women. If you  have to talk that way at all do so with a male audience.
     The positive is that because the presidential elections have been so emotionally charged some people's filters have been lowered so much that they cannot control their true natures. I guess its good news/bad news. I would like to have more faith in my fellow humans. Lack of filter does not help.

    

THE CAMPAIGN CONTINUES

     Every presidential  election seems like the craziest election ever. This election cycle is  no exception. Some people are going overboard with their candidate support. Some aren't talking to people that they used to be good friends with just because they do not support their favorite candidate. This is utterly ridiculous. Support whoever you prefer but none of these candidates are worth losing one's friends over. 

I'm Having a Glass of Wine

    As a kid I could not wait to be able to vote. I thought it was the coolest thing. Now that I am more than old enough to vote I wish there were better choices. I really do not like either choice. Why can't we have a do over for the primaries and get some better candidates?
    The truth  is there isn't usually a candidate that I especially love but there usually a clearer better of two evils choice. Instead of a democrat and a republican there are two democrats running.    Couldn't the republicans have come up with a better candidate? They had four years to come up with a good one. Now we have two democrat candidates and though I am a registered democrat I don't like either candidate. Who knows, I might not have liked a different republican candidate either but I may have voted for them if they had been one of the choices.  I will wait to see who the vice president choices are. Hilary might be going to jail after the election so its important to know who her choice for vice president is. I want to know who Trump is choosing because that might make me more comfortable voting for him. Now I feel more like sitting this one out.

Primary Day

    I have been so disgusted with all of the presidential candidates this season that I was not going to vote in the primaries . After much deliberation I decided I was going to actually vote . At 8:40 tonight I voted. The voting center was deserted. Either lots of people voted earlier or not many people voted at all. Maybe the high tech scanner made the voting process so quick there wasn't a chance for there to be a large crowd at the polls. I had forgotten that New York has finally gotten rid of the old circa 1970 voting booths. I am embarrassed to admit that the last time I voted in an election was the last presidential election. That was the inauguration of the the voting scanner. It's so weird to vote in such a high tech fashion. I wonder what the margin of error is . Nothing is foolproof.
     I'm glad I voted but I am not sure that I chose the best candidate. I am not going to tell you who I voted for so don't bother asking. I am not even sure that if the candidate I voted for wins the nomination that I will vote for them. I haven't decided yet. Then again we still do not know who any of the candidates will be for sure ... yet.

rock the vote

yes i admit that for someone who didnt even realize that there was going to be an election until last week that 'rock the vote' is quite an interesting title for this post! no matter. i might not have realized that there was going to be an election, but that does not mean that i dont think that it is important to vote.
i voted this morning at my most favorite time - 6:30 a.m. this is before work. i don't like having to stand in line to vote and usually if you vote this early in the morning there is not a line.
when i grow up i want to be one of those senior citizens who work at the polling centers. they look like they are having so much fun .
i used to go to the polls at 6:00 a.m. when they allegedly open. no more. at 6:00 a.m. the employed seniors are just trying to remember what the procedures are. i could vote that early but im not too confident my vote will actually count at that hour. by 6:30 everything is usually up and running so i feel safe to vote.
i don't know about you , but i always seem to misplace the orange or yellow postcard which tells me which election district i am in. i usually have to look up my voter registration online. i always remember where im supposed to vote. when i asked the senior at the polling center which area of the building i needed to go to to vote she told me that she thought i was in the wrong polling center. but of course. eventually i found the correct area to go to . i knew i was in the right place because i saw the same senior from last year manning the election booth.
i love the fact that new york still has the old fashioned voting booths. they are so cool. no chads to deal with either. its also good because this way the seniors who run the polls don't have to deal with any new fangled technology.
there is always so much drama during the voting process that i almost forget to find out who won!

elections?

im embarrassed to be asking this question, but heck, im going to ask anyway. are the new york mayorial elections really on november 3 ? ive been busy recovering from yom tov that ive completely forgotten about it. i know bloomberg is running, but who is the other candidate? attention nyc readers, please help me out with this one!!!

not drunk enough

i wish i had enough of the obama kool-aid that i could feel anything but indifference over his inauguration today as the 44th president of the united states. i think he will be an adequate president who will get way too much credit, just because he is part black.

the one thing that i do think is good is how so many black and hispanic people are feeling good about being citizens of the united states today and were all listening to the inauguration on the internet today at work (where i work) or wherever they happend to be. i think that this is a positive thing. i have NEVER seen people watching the presidential inauguration at my workplace (before internet there was always an in - office tv or radio which could have been used )

i dont like the perma-scowl on michelle obama's face, but i do like the way she dresses. and i like the fact that she isnt a toothpick. i do realize that neither of these fun facts display one's qualifications as first lady.

so time will tell how quickly the obama-messiah excitement will fade . im not sure how much i will be paying attention, but somehow im confident we will all find out. stay tuned...

post elections

now that obama's pr superstars have achieved their goals, maybe they would like to be my advocates. they must have alot of time on their hands now. if only i had a pr team like that to help me find a husband....
anyhow... a girl can dream...

noise pollution

on my train ride home tonight i was treated to an assault of my eardrums by 4 pro-obama african american youths. the youths were rapping at the top of their lungs how happy they were that their homey won. when asked to hold it down 10 decibels , they decided to get even louder. if this is what the next 4 years look like... im going to have to invest in state of the art earplugs.

old fashioned voting booths

when i was a kid i used to go to the polls with my mother when she voted. i remembered really digging those old fashioned voting booths with the curtains . by the time i registered to vote they got rid of them where i grew up and replaced them with the punch cards with the chads etc...
when i finally registered to vote in nyc , i was able to live out my childhood dream of voting in the old fashioned voting booths of my youth. in new york they still have the old fashioned voting booths with the privacy curtain. when voting in the old fashioned booths you push a lever which puts an x by the candidate's name and if you accidentally x'd the wrong candidate you can un-ex your selection, and later x the one you really wanted all before moving the voting lever to the left to place your vote.
after the election in 2000 we learned that technology isnt always better. long lived the dinosaur voting booths in nyc!!!

no big surprise

my presidential voting poll is over. i see that mccain was the big winner. no big surprise here. anyways, i still havent decided who i will vote for.....

cartoon heaven!!!

perhaps mad magazine rigged the presidential primaries this time around. both candidates already appear incredibly cartoonish!! mcain looks like the face on an old west wanted dead or alive parody and obama looks like a cartoon for alka seltzer. he perpetually has that gassy smile plastered across his face. too bad im not a cartoonist, because i would have so much fun sketching these two characters.
hilary clinton and john edwards did not look cartoonish. this my friends is why neither won the democratic primary.

ross perot anyone?

i personally think that hilary clinton should be on the ballot whether or not she achieves the democratic nomination or not. she should be the ross perot of this election. i dont even know who im going to vote for this election because the only one i had even thought about voting for was clinton, and i dont know if she will be on the ballot. i could write her in , but i actually want my vote to count.
obama and his wife dont impress me at all. if hes so un-muslim why doesnt he still go by the name 'barry'?
mccain on the other hand doesnt impress me either. aside from the fact he looks not unlike a cartoon character , i cant think of any good reason to vote for him except for the fact i dont particularly like obama.
perhaps obama isnt a muslim sympathizer, but i am afraid that he will pull a david dinkins if he is elected. if david dinkins wasnt black the crown heights riots would not be part of history. david dinkins is not an anti-semite, but he had to walk a line during the crown heights riots because he was black. im not sure that obama is an anti-semite , but im not sure that he is so good for the jews either.
hilary clinton is no saint either, but i do think that the devil you know is better than the devil you dont know (obama).
well, i have another 6 months to figure it out.
at least the primaries this time around have been interesting .im not usually concerned with politics. i vote, but im not a walking political encyclopedia.
is ross perot still alive? if he is maybe he should consider running for office. im sure he would get some votes. heck, even if has alzheimers he still might do a better job than our current choices!!

definitely ryan reynolds

i saw the movie definitely maybe recently. though corny , i actually really liked it . i'm a real sucker for those cutesy romantic comedies. unfortunately i arrived a tad late to the movie , so i missed the very beginning, which led to a little confusion on my part, but even so i really liked it. the movie was about a single dad telling his daughter how he met her mother and ultimately his finding true love. the part i really liked about it was that it started in pre-clinton '92, during the elections . ryan reynolds went to ny to be part of the campaign. to me that period in time was equal to the modern-day camelot (kennedy era). it was the only time in my lifetime that people were really excited about an election. it had been nice to see people being more positive about politics no matter how short lived it was. of course the movie kind of parallelled the decline and disillusionments of the clinton era to ryan's disappointing love life.
of course, i pay alot of attention to detail and what i really thought was cute was how they showed the progression in cell phone technology. the first phones shown in 1992 were huge, and they gradually shrunk. the movie soundtrack made me want to listen to nirvana again. another cute thing was how they really showcased nyc. i really love when movies do that. its enough years after 9/11 for me that i can just appreciate it without thoughts of reality stabbing me in the side.

mickey mouse for president

someone left the most idiotic message on my answering machine today. they said that registered democrats shouldnt vote for clinton or obama today out of protest and that they should write in ronald reagan's name instead!! i couldn't make this up if i tried!! i don't think that the choices are great, but i think that people ought to vote for a viable candidate who actually belongs to the democratic party. oh and by the way , the candidate must be alive!! im not sure what organization sold my phone number to the moron who left that message on my machine, but they out to think twice before sharing their lists with this message leaving nut. personally i think that obama rhymes too much with osama . or maybe that's the point. i actually am a registered democrat but only once have i voted for a presidential candidate belonging to the democratic party

the case of the hidden primaries

until i went to work today and read my favorite newspaper metro new york, i didnt realize that tomorrow will be the primaries in ny. i find this most ridiculous because due to the media i knew when new hampshire, iowa and florida had their primaries. the heads up were all mentioned on 1010 wins in advance. now i do admit that i only listen to the radio for a few minutes in the morning mostly to hear the weather forcast, but you would think that they might bother to give us some advance notice. i know that i didnt recieve the voter postcard notice telling me what date the primaries will be. at first i thought that i must have recieved it, but just misplaced it, but apparently no one at work recieved one either. well anyway for anyone who may not know, the primaries in ny are tomorrow . please vote. in my mind , you have alot of nerve complaining about the government if you arent even a voter.
