Hungry Girl To The Max
Tonight at Barnes and Noble at 86th St and Lexington Lisa Lillien hawked her new book Hungry Girl To the Mas. It was a fun filled event . Every attendee recieved a pink bag filled with Hungry Girl endorced lower calorie snacks that were mostly kosher. (note: not all of the recipes in the book are kosher but a lot are ) There were several raffles . Lisa Lillien briefly spoke and answered questions. She then signed books. It was a lot of fun.

satisfaction
yeah, i know the weight watchers diet well . i also know the low carb/south beach diet because i have friends who have done them. i am sick of diets. they don't help me with the one thing that will help me lose weight. eating to be thin never makes me feel satisfied. i may not be hungry but i definitely won't be satisfied. satisfaction must be found in a non- food way. eating too much is not the answer . i need to find another way to fill the void.

perverse eating habits
have you ever had desert at shabbos lunch and felt that the hostess enjoyed watching you eat the dessert more than you enjoyed actually eating the dessert? usually the hostess is a size two and is eating two bites of some gross looking diet dessert as she is forcing everyone else at the table to eat whatever cake / cookie/ mousse/ pareve ice cream that she has served. it goes beyond the stereotypical jewish mother syndrome. these women have forbidden themselves to eat sweets so they feel that by watching someone else eat decadently they will vicariously be eating the sweets. its kind of like if there is some delicious looking treif treat at work and you watch someone else enjoy it because you can't, except its worse because these women could really eat these desserts they just won't because by eating desert they will risk a fate worse than death . they risk becoming a size four.
i of course can't stand this type of food pusher because they make me feel like they think im fat so they want to make sure i have dessert but of course they are so skinny they don't need dessert. if they didn't enjoy watching everyone at the table eat the dessert i might actually believe them.

shomer shabbos
in brooklyn you really learn something new everyday. today i was at kosher delight on avenue j and someone asked for a shomer shabbos as part of their order. i for one was baffled. we were at kosher delight.for heaven's sake! well... i had to find out what this meant so i asked the woman who placed the order what that meant. apparently this means that a jewish person puts the burger on the grill. sephardim are makpid on this.
its always fun to learn about a new chumrah one has never heard of ,but this one really floored me.i wonder if there is an extra charge for this? if so this is ingenious. i wonder how many kosher establishments provide this feature.

topsy turvy
i was shopping in the 34th street area in nyc this past tuesday afternoon. when i happened passed mrs. fields cookies it looked like it had a kashrus certificate on the wall. i walked in and after taking a closer look i realized it indeed was a certificate pertaining to the qualifications of the food in the establishment, but it was not certifying the food in the manner in which i had first thought. it was an arabic "kashrus" certificate. i did not know such a thing exists. there was not kashrut certificate in sight. moshiach must be coming soon.....

food issues
i must have the most interesting grocery cart in midwood. whenever im at the checkout at glatt mart someone decides to pick up one of my food items on the checkout counters and ask me about it. its the biggest pain in the you know what. another favorite is those who decide to tell me how expensive the item they are groping is and is it really worth the money. even if i went shopping with my own mother she wouldn't ask me this. i cant stand this brooklyn-jewish invasion of privacy. i don't appreciate someone beside the check out person handling my grocery items either, but i figure anyone could have fondled the food package before i put it on the check out counter, so i usually try to just suck it up. i think that i should look into a new career as a personal grocery shopper. if my new clients dont actually like how their food items taste at least they will find them intriguing.
