When one is single one often feels like one does not have family. This is not entirely true though. When you are single you have the family of singles . The hodgepodge of singles who one is thrown together with over the years become your family. If one is single long enough one can almost miss this makeshift family when one is suddenly not single.

Someone has been watching too many sitcom's.
Yes there are friendships and pseudofamily relationships but these last only until real ones arrive to take their place.

No, no, I was but marriage and getting a job really does change things. A lot of friendships are far more situational that you realize. I had great friends I talked to every single day for years and then I got a job in a different city and got married and suddenly we were only talking every few months and as time passed we drifted further into separate lives. Nothing lasts forever.
I think that in a way this is what I meant. When you are single you are part of a family of people that you are not a part of anymore when you marry. A lot of relationships are situational, but not all.
Yeah, I know. Like that nerdy guy from undergrad. No matter what, he follows you everywhere in life.
