Sometimes its hard to believe that life happened before I was born. I have parents, grandparents and friends who can verify that history is real, but still, its hard to fathom. Its also hard to grapple that those much younger than me do not remember much of what I remember growing up. It makes sense though. They were not born yet. What makes this all the more interesting is that if I have trouble believing the validity of the recent past and I actually know people who lived in it, what about people of the future? How will they believe that what happened in our times really occurred?

It comes down to believing history.
Simple things, like:
-Do you believe America once had slaves?
-Or how about that 75-200 million people were killed by the Black Death?
It's just a matter of trusting in historians.
What always gets me is that events that I recall are being studied as history by younger people. I remember watching news about the first Gulf War on TV and the Reagan presidency but kids entering university today are studying it as history!
Reagan? I remember the day Nixon resigned.
Please. I remember where I was the day Lincoln was shot.
I was probably home, since it was shot only a couple of years ago.
